Kelela

Kelela synthesizes contemporary R&B and progressive electronic music with an aptitude for prompting club play as much as bedroom listening. The singer/songwriter and producer became active in the early 2010s with numerous supporting roles leading to Cut 4 Me (2013), her mixtape debut for the Fade to Mind label. Increased exposure and a growing network of collaborators naturally led to a deal with the Warp label, an affiliation that started with the conceptual Hallucinogen EP (2015) and continued with Take Me Apart (2017), Kelela's widely acclaimed, charting debut album. She resurfaced after a four-year hiatus with the ballad "Washed Away." The atmospheric and wholehearted track served as the first precursor to Raven (2023), which Kelela described as "an affirmation of Black femme perspective in the midst of systemic erasure and the sound of our vulnerability turned to power." Club-focused companion RAVE:N, The Remixes followed in 2024.
